Clean Earth Energy – Your Clean Energy Partner- has a customer in Cape Town who already had an inverter installed, and wanted to extend this installation with solar panels. The main roof was however in the wrong orientation making it less than suitable for solar panels. There was very limited other space for solar panels.
The main entrance and kitchen of this home face North and are impacted by both the Cape Town summer sun and winter rain. To address these issues, the homeowner was thinking about installing awnings over the entrance patio and the kitchen door.
Combining the need for shelter with the requirement for solar energy resulted in the innovative ‘Solar Patio Roof’.
The Solar Patio Roof is made from custom designed galvanized steel frames, with the solar panels installed so as to create a water tight roof, while still giving the panels necessary room to move. The frames that support the solar panels are manufactured from heavy duty steel making them strong enough to handle all weather conditions.
This innovation provides all the benefits of both a patio roof and solar power at a cost lower than the sum of two separate projects.
